AIT delhi main buildingAMBEDKAR INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY is one of the few Institutes of Technology of Delhi Govt. created as centres of excellence for higher training in science and engineering . Established as Ambedkar Polytechnic in 1986-87, the Institute was later declared an Institution of Technology and was renamed "Ambedkar Institute of Technology Delhi". It was then accorded the status of a Degree college under the affiliation of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.

The building of Ambedkar Institute of Technology has been designed in a plot of area of 3.14 hectares. The main building of the Institute comprises of 6 blocks. It has in-built features like lecture theatres, classrooms, workshops, laboratories and student-related facilities such as common room, canteen, medical-aid room etc. The building has been constructed to provide infrastructural facilities as per All India Council for Technical Education norms for conducting degree, diploma and postdiploma programmes with provision for further expansion and upgradation.
